President Donald Trump combined the traditional turkey pardon with political criticism during a White House ceremony on Tuesday. The event, meant to symbolize holiday goodwill, featured jokes aimed at his political rivals.
The President suggested naming the two pardoned turkeys "Chuck" and "Nancy." These are the first names of leading Democrats, Senator Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
He then joked about sending the birds to an infamous prison in El Salvador. The United States has used this facility to house some migrants it has deported. Regarding the actual politicians, the President stated, "I would never pardon those..." before leaving the sentence unfinished.
