Ukraine's "Air Defense Zoo": Russian Systems Hunted in One Night
Ukrainian forces used drones to destroy four different types of Russian air defense systems in a single night. The attack happened on March 6 over the occupied southern regions of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson. Two separate Ukrainian drone units carried out the strikes. They used a Ukrainian-made weapon called the FP-2 drone. This drone is known as a "loitering munition." It can fly over an area for some time, locate a target, and then crash into it to explode. The targeted systems were a Pantsir, a Tor, a Buk, and an S-300V. Each is designed to shoot down aircraft and missiles at different ranges and altitudes. Together, they represent what military analysts sometimes call an "air defense zoo"—a mixed group of systems meant to create a layered defensive shield. The successful strikes demonstrate a growing Ukrainian capability. Their drones can now find and defeat the very systems designed to stop air attacks. This weakens Russia's protective cover over the occupied territory.
