China is consolidating its state-owned cruise industry to create Asia's largest fleet. The move combines the cruise operations of four major government-owned companies into a single new entity. Officials state this is part of a broader effort to improve efficiency and coordination within the sector.
The new venture will be operated by the China Tourism Group, one of the four firms involved. The country's state-owned assets regulator hosted a signing ceremony to finalize the agreement on Friday.
Upon completion, the combined venture will control the biggest fleet of cruise ships in Asia. This consolidation highlights China's focus on strengthening its key industries through centralized management.
