Citizens of Guinea-Bissau are awaiting the results of the presidential election. Analysts report a close race between the incumbent, President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, and his main challenger.
The challenger is Fernando Dias da Costa, a 47-year-old candidate who is not widely known. He received the backing of former Prime Minister Domingos Simões Pereira. Pereira was the runner-up in the country's last presidential election in 2019.
Vote counting is now underway. The outcome will determine if President Embaló wins a second term in office.
