Police in Catania, Sicily, say a local man trained his dog to illegally dump household rubbish. The man used the animal in an attempt to avoid surveillance cameras installed to stop fly-tipping, the illegal dumping of waste.
The city government described the scheme as "as cunning as it is doubly wrong." Municipal police detailed the incident in a post on the city's official Facebook page, which included a video of the dog.
Authorities added that "inventiveness can never become an alibi for incivility." The cameras were put in place to combat a persistent fly-tipping problem in the area.
