Ex-NYPD Commissioner's "Systemic Corruption" Lawsuit Dismissed by Judge

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a former interim New York City police commissioner. The suit had accused the police department of "systemic corruption." The case was brought by ex-Commissioner Philip Banks III. He served briefly as interim commissioner in 2013. Banks alleged the corruption occurred under the administration of former Mayor Eric Adams, who was previously a police captain. Banks claimed he was unfairly punished for exposing misconduct. He said he was denied a permanent commissioner role as retaliation. The judge ruled that Banks filed his lawsuit too late. The law sets a strict time limit for such claims. Because the deadline was missed, the judge did not evaluate the corruption allegations themselves. The NYPD and the former mayor's office have not commented on the dismissal. Banks' legal team has also not responded.
