President Donald Trump announced Thursday he is directing the Pentagon and other agencies to declassify and release government files on UFOs and extraterrestrials.
He cited "tremendous interest" in the subject. The order was made in a social media post hours after he accused former President Barack Obama of revealing "classified information."
Obama had recently suggested in a podcast that aliens are real. When asked by reporters aboard Air Force One for his own views, Trump said, "I don't know if they're..." before trailing off.
The announcement signals a potential major shift in the U.S. government's transparency regarding Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP), the official term for UFOs.
