Norwegian police are conducting a major investigation into former diplomat Terje Rod-Larsen over alleged links to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Authorities confirmed the probe is "extensive" and will likely take considerable time to complete. Rod-Larsen, a former United Nations envoy and president of the International Peace Institute, was questioned by police last week.
The investigation focuses on the nature and extent of Rod-Larsen's connections to Epstein. The financier was a convicted sex offender who died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on new sex trafficking charges.
Rod-Larsen has previously acknowledged meeting Epstein but denied any knowledge of his crimes. The high-profile case has drawn international attention due to Epstein's network of powerful associates.
