A Japanese retiree has secretly spent his 600 million yen (US$3.8 million) lottery win on a life of luxury, keeping the news from his wife. The man, identified only as "S," is a 66-year-old former manufacturing employee living in Tokyo with his wife.
The couple lives on a combined monthly pension of 300,000 yen (US$2,000). High city living costs and their children's education expenses had previously stretched their budget.
According to a report by The Gold Online, the man decided not to share his lottery victory. He reportedly told the outlet that his wife is very careful with money. He believed she would insist on saving the entire windfall.
He has instead used the money for himself. His secret spending includes luxury brand clothing, high-end golf club memberships, and expensive dinners. The man says his wife remains unaware of their newfound wealth.
