A surprise appearance by humanoid robots on China's biggest TV show has triggered a wave of consumer orders, overwhelming manufacturers.
The robots from four Chinese firms performed on the annual Spring Festival Gala this Monday. Within days, public interest surged. Companies now report a backlog of orders, with some delivery estimates pushed to late April.
The four companies – Unitree Robotics, Magiclab, Galbot, and Noetix – had signed partnership deals for the gala appearance worth an estimated 100 million yuan (US$14 million). The broadcast served as a massive public demonstration.
Hangzhou-based Unitree Robotics is seeing particularly high demand. Its G1 humanoid robot model is now facing significant shipment delays due to the influx of new orders. The situation highlights how major media exposure can instantly impact the emerging consumer robotics market.
