France's interior minister visited Algeria on Monday, signaling a possible warming of ties after a period of tension.
Laurent Nunez's trip follows a dispute over visa rules. His predecessor had tightened entry conditions for Algerian diplomats. France had also threatened action if Algeria refused to take back citizens ordered to leave French territory.
Relations worsened further when France recognized Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara. Algeria supports the opposing side in that decades-long territorial dispute.
The high-level visit is seen as an attempt to improve diplomatic relations between the two nations.
