The U.S. Justice Department has begun transferring former death row inmates to a highly secure federal prison. These individuals had their sentences commuted to life in prison by President Biden.
So far, officials have moved 10 of the 37 affected inmates. They are being sent to ADX Florence, a Colorado facility often called a "supermax" prison. This type of prison imposes strict, solitary confinement for the highest-security prisoners.
The Justice Department confirms that more transfers are planned. This action follows President Biden's 2022 decision to commute all federal death sentences.
