President Donald Trump has publicly urged Ukraine's leader to speed up negotiations with Russia. He warned that delay could mean missing a "great opportunity."
Trump made the comments, referring to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while speaking to reporters on Sunday. "He has to move. He has to get moving," Trump said. "Otherwise he's going to miss a great opportunity."
The U.S. president did not specify the details of this potential opportunity. His remarks come as Ukraine seeks to end a long-running conflict with Russian-backed forces in its eastern regions.
The conflict began in 2014. International efforts to secure a peace deal, known as the Minsk agreements, have stalled for years.
Trump has previously expressed a desire to improve relations with Russia. He has also suggested that resolving the Ukraine conflict is a key step toward that goal.
There was no immediate public response from Ukrainian officials to Trump's latest statement.
