Kenya Sends Top Diplomat to Russia Over "Forced" Fighters in Ukraine
Kenya's foreign minister will travel to Moscow for urgent talks next month. The visit follows Nairobi's strong condemnation of recruiters who are allegedly tricking Kenyans into fighting in Ukraine. The Kenyan government said the recruiters use promises of high-paying jobs in Russia. Instead, citizens are sent to join Russian military forces in the conflict against Ukraine. Kenya has called this practice "deceptive" and unacceptable. Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi will lead the diplomatic mission. The goal is to resolve the situation of any Kenyan nationals who were forcibly conscripted, or forced into military service. This development marks a significant escalation in Kenya's response. The African nation has consistently called for a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine war and now faces a direct issue involving its own citizens.
