American skiing star Lindsey Vonn will compete in Sunday's Olympic downhill race in Cortina. This comes just over a week after she suffered a serious knee injury.
Vonn, 41, tore her ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), a key stabilizing ligament in the knee. Despite this, she has chosen to push forward with her plan to race.
The event represents a dramatic personal challenge. It is an attempt to complete a comeback to elite skiing, now made even more difficult by her recent injury.
The downhill is one of Alpine skiing's most dangerous and speed-focused events.
