British politician Peter Mandelson is leaving the House of Lords. This follows new questions about his relationship with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The Speaker of the House of Lords confirmed Mandelson's retirement. It takes effect immediately.
His departure comes as the UK government prepared to force him out. Officials were drafting legislation to eject him and remove his "Lord" title.
Mandelson faces a potential police investigation over his ties to Epstein. The financier died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
