Each year, about 80 British citizens are victims of homicide overseas. Their families must then face a complex and painful aftermath.
Eve Henderson knows this tragedy. In October 1997, she found her husband, Roderick, in a Paris hospital. He was on life support after a violent attack.
"He looked fairly alive," Henderson recalls. A small red mark was on his forehead. A tube was helping him breathe.
She felt numb with shock. "You've got no emotion, you've got nothing," she says. "That's what shock does to you."
A doctor entered the room. The doctor was crying. Henderson wondered if she should be crying, too. She felt like a "block of stone."
Henderson's world collapsed. Now, she is fighting to help other grieving families navigate this difficult journey.
