Healthcare, education, and social workers in Hong Kong are reporting more potential child abuse cases. An NGO running a child protection hotline says these professionals now account for nearly 20 percent of all calls.
Patrick Cheung Chi-hung, chairman of the group Against Child Abuse, links this increase to a new law. Since 2022-23, professionals have been legally required to report suspected child abuse. This mandatory reporting duty has led to a continuous rise in calls from these sectors.
