A French lawmaker has described her trauma in court. She is testifying against a former senator accused of drugging her.
The ex-senator, Joël Guerriau, is on trial. He is charged with drugging MP Sandrine Josso with MDMA, a stimulant drug, in 2021. Prosecutors allege he intended to commit a sexual assault.
Josso told the Paris court she felt "completely helpless" after drinking champagne at his home. She said she later discovered white powder in the glass.
This high-profile trial follows another major case. That earlier case involved MP Gisèle Pelicot. Her experience with drugging and rape made her a global symbol in the fight against sexual violence.
Guerriau denies the charges. His lawyers say he used drugs socially and there was no intent to assault.
The trial continues.
