Kanye West has paid for a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal to apologize for his past antisemitic behavior. The rapper, now known as Ye, also denied being a Nazi.
The ad is titled "To Those I’ve Hurt." In it, West writes, "I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people."
He apologizes to his family and the Black community. West says his "poor judgment and reckless behaviour" was caused by his bipolar-1 disorder.
He claims this mental health condition developed because doctors failed to diagnose a brain injury. West says he hurt the frontal lobe of his brain in a 2002 car accident.
The ad references his past actions. These include making offensive public statements and selling T-shirts with swastikas on them.
West states that the focus after his accident was only on his broken jaw. He says the deeper brain injury "went unnoticed."
