Victoria Beckham has legally trademarked the names of her four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. The move is part of brand management for her fashion and beauty empire.
Public reaction is divided. Some see it as a strange parental choice, while others view it as a standard business practice for a global brand built on a personal name.
The news has also created unexpected personal conflicts. Writer Zoe Williams notes her daughter and dog share names with two Beckham children.
"My daughter is Harper, and my dog is Romeo," Williams states. "I feel I should have been consulted."
She claims her Harper was born two years before Harper Beckham. Her dog Romeo, though younger in real years, is now older in "dog years."
Williams jokes that her dog is unhappy about the shared name. She explains her Romeo was named for his loving nature from a themed "R" litter.
The trademarks prevent others from using the names for commercial products like perfumes or clothing without permission. For now, they do not affect private citizens or their pets.
