Hong Kong's Primary Three pupils have reached a record high in English competency, according to a recent citywide assessment. The results signal a strong recovery in language skills following disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Territory-wide System Assessment (TSA) data was released on Thursday. It showed that English proficiency improved this year for students in Primary Three, Primary Six, and Form Three.
This upward trend reverses a decline that began with the pandemic's outbreak. The most notable result was among the youngest group tested. A record 83.2 percent of Primary Three pupils met the core competency standards in English.
The TSA is a standardized test conducted by Hong Kong authorities. It measures students' fundamental abilities in key subjects like English and Chinese.
