The head of Sudan's military government has declared that peace is impossible unless the rival paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) is wiped out.
General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, stated that any proposed solution including the RSF would only delay the country's crisis. He made the remarks in a recent public address.
The RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces, formerly allies, have been engaged in a brutal civil war for over a year. The conflict has caused widespread destruction, killed tens of thousands, and created the world's largest displacement crisis.
Burhan's statement signals a firm rejection of negotiated settlements that would integrate the RSF into a future state structure. It underscores the deep rift between the warring factions and suggests a prolonged military struggle lies ahead.
