Scotland Ships "Baby Box" to New York Mayor in Policy Pact

The gift comes after Mayor Mamdani used Scotland's policy as a model for his election campaign. Since 2017, Scotland has given every expectant mother a box of baby clothes, blankets, and other useful products. Scotland's Social Justice Secretary, Shirley-Anne Somerville, sent the box. She said it shows a shared commitment to fighting child poverty. The gift will also help New York City develop its own version, which Mayor Mamdani calls a "baby basket." The Scottish baby box is given to all new parents, regardless of income. Supporters say it provides vital supplies and a safe place for babies to sleep.
