Glasgow Hospital Finally Admits Water Made Cancer Patients Sicker

A Scottish health board has admitted that contaminated water caused infections in a children's hospital. This follows years of denials and a fierce battle by affected families. Molly Cuddihy was 15 and studying for exams when diagnosed with bone cancer. She contracted a bacterial infection during chemotherapy at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH). She told a public inquiry in 2021 that the hospital environment made her sicker. Molly described suffering "frightening" fits. She died without ever receiving official recognition that the hospital was at fault. The QEUH and the attached Royal Hospital for Children are the subject of a major six-year inquiry. This week, the inquiry heard new and devastating admissions from the NHS health board. Families of the infected patients accuse the health board of "deceit and cowardice." They fought for years to prove the link between the water supply and the infections.
