A 59-year-old woman in China has given birth to a baby boy. She is now the oldest person to give birth in her city.
The child was born on January 9 at a hospital in Zhangjiagang. The city is in China's eastern Jiangsu province. The baby was delivered by caesarean section and weighed 2.2 kilograms.
The mother, surnamed Zou, had in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment. This medical procedure helps people conceive a child. She wanted another child because her adult daughter lives abroad. Zou and her husband said they felt lonely.
The local hospital confirmed the birth is a record for the city. The mother and baby are reported to be in good health.
