The United Nations will take over management of the al-Hol camp in Syria. This follows the withdrawal of Kurdish-led security forces, which left the camp in a dangerous state.
A UN spokesman described conditions as "tense and volatile." The camp houses approximately 43,000 people, mostly women and children linked to ISIS fighters.
Al-Hol is known for its poor conditions and occasional violence. The Kurdish administration had previously managed the camp but requested international help.
The UN's new role will focus on providing basic services and improving security. The goal is to stabilize the camp and prepare for the eventual return of residents to their home countries.
