A new medical college in Jammu has been permanently closed after its first group of admitted students were predominantly Muslim. Local Hindu nationalist groups protested the admissions results.
The college had opened this year in the Jammu region. Officials have not given a clear reason for the sudden shutdown.
Critics say the closure reflects a wider pattern of shrinking academic freedom in India. They argue that educational institutions are increasingly pressured by political and religious ideologies.
The college's administration has not commented.
