Armed kidnappers surrounded a village in Nigeria's northern Kaduna state on Sunday, beating residents and abducting dozens of Christian worshippers from a church service.
The attack occurred around 10 a.m. local time. A mother of one victim said the kidnappers "took them from church."
This mass abduction follows a pattern of kidnappings for ransom in Nigeria's northwest. Police initially denied the incident occurred, but local residents have confirmed the attack.
Kidnapping is now a widespread criminal industry in the region, with armed groups frequently targeting schools, highways, and villages.
