Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has taken a senior role on a new "Board of Peace" for Ukraine. The move has caused a major political disagreement.
The board was created by a non-profit organization. It aims to create a detailed plan for Ukraine's recovery and future security after the war ends.
The announcement drew immediate praise from former US President Donald Trump. He posted "Thank you, Tony" on his social media platform. Trump has often said he could negotiate a quick end to the war.
However, the UK government is angry. Officials say Mr. Blair accepted the role without informing them. They stress he does not represent the British government.
The project is also controversial because it reportedly invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to join. This led many nations, including the UK, to reject it.
A UK government spokesman stated the country's position remains clear: any peace must be based on Ukraine's terms.
