World-renowned climber Alex Honnold will attempt to scale Taipei 101, one of the world's tallest skyscrapers, without ropes or safety gear.
The event will be broadcast live. Honnold is famous for his "free solo" style, a form of climbing that uses no protective equipment to stop a fall.
He plans to climb the 508-meter-tall building in Taipei, Taiwan. The structure was the world's tallest from 2004 to 2007.
Honnold's most famous feat is his free solo ascent of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park. That 2017 climb was documented in the Oscar-winning film "Free Solo."
The Taipei 101 climb details, including the specific date and broadcast time, are expected soon. Building management and local authorities have approved the event.
