A U.S. House committee voted Wednesday to advance contempt of Congress charges against Bill and Hillary Clinton. The vote escalates a Republican-led investigation into the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
The resolutions accuse the former president and former secretary of state of failing to comply with subpoenas for documents related to Epstein. The committee is investigating Epstein’s network and alleged sex trafficking.
The full House of Representatives could vote on the contempt charges next month. If approved, the matter would be sent to the Justice Department, which would decide whether to prosecute.
A representative for the Clintons called the move a "political stunt." The Clintons have previously denied any wrongdoing regarding Epstein.
