A new video shows the northern lights from a rare perspective: inside the phenomenon.
The footage was captured this week by cosmonaut Sergey Kud-Sverchkov from the International Space Station (ISS). It shows a dazzling green glow swirling around the orbital outpost.
The aurora occurs when charged particles from the sun hit Earth's atmosphere. These particles are guided by the planet's magnetic field toward the poles.
From the ground, people see the lights as shimmering curtains in the sky. From the ISS, astronauts fly directly through the energetic particle storm.
Kud-Sverchkov shared the video on social media. The view offers a stunning look at one of space's most famous displays.
