Chile's far-right president-elect, José Antonio Kast, has chosen a staunch opponent of abortion to lead the ministry for women and gender equality.
The new minister, 30-year-old Judith Marín, is known for her public protests against bills to decriminalize abortion. She has often stated her support for life "from conception to natural death."
Marín once made national news when police removed her from Chile's senate. She was shouting "return to the Lord" during a vote on abortion rights.
The appointment signals the incoming government's conservative direction on social policies.
