A leading artificial intelligence (AI) research lab is moving key staff and work from China to Singapore.
MiroMind, a subsidiary of the China-founded Shanda Group, has asked some researchers in Shanghai to relocate. This follows a broader reorganization announced by Shanda and MiroMind on Sunday.
The move focuses on advanced AI research. MiroMind specializes in artificial general intelligence (AGI). AGI is a theoretical form of AI that can understand or learn any intellectual task a human can.
The shift echoes a similar action last year by AI startup Manus. It also pulled its research operations out of China.
The relocation highlights Singapore's growing role as a global AI hub. The city-state actively attracts tech investment and talent.
Shanda Group, founded in China, is now a multinational investment firm. It did not specify reasons for the research shift in its reorganization statement.
