Syrian Army Seizes Infamous ISIS Family Camp

Syrian government forces have taken full control of the al-Hol camp. The move came after Kurdish-led forces withdrew from the area under a truce agreement. The sprawling camp in northeast Syria houses approximately 24,000 people. Most are women and children related to suspected Islamic State (ISIS) fighters. The transfer of authority occurred on January 21. Observers report that the ceasefire between the Syrian army and Kurdish fighters is currently holding. Al-Hol is widely considered a symbol of the unresolved crisis following ISIS's territorial defeat. Managing the camp, which holds families of jihadist militants, remains a major international security concern.
