Abuja -- Nigerian military forces killed more than 20 terrorist fighters in a prolonged battle in Borno State. The clash also resulted in the deaths of several soldiers. The attack happened in an area known as the Timbuktu Triangle. Troops from Operation Hadin Kai, the main counter-terrorism unit in northeast Nigeria, engaged the insurgents in what the army described as a "fierce and sustained encounter." The military confirmed the casualties on both sides but did not give an exact number of soldiers killed. Such operations are part of Nigeria's ongoing campaign against armed groups in its northern regions.
