A delegation from Turkey's pro-Kurdish DEM Party has arrived in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. The group is on a route to visit northeastern Syria, an area controlled by Kurdish-led authorities.
The delegation, which includes politicians, civil society representatives, and bar association members, was received by officials from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). The KDP handles the region's external relations.
The DEM Party group is expected to travel from the Kurdistan Region into parts of Syria known as Rojava. This area is administered by Kurdish groups linked to the People's Protection Units (YPG).
The visit highlights ongoing political connections across borders in the region. Turkey designates the YPG as a terrorist organization, making such cross-border movements politically significant.
