A 70-year-old woman died from natural causes shortly after riding a popular roller coaster at Universal Orlando Resort, according to a newly released report.
The woman, identified as Patricia Ann Dukes from South Carolina, rode the indoor "Revenge of the Mummy" attraction on August 9. She became unwell immediately after the ride and was taken to a hospital, where she died the next day.
The Orange County Medical Examiner's Office has now concluded its investigation. The official cause of death is listed as a ruptured brain aneurysm, a pre-existing medical condition. The manner of death is natural.
The report states the physical stress of the roller coaster ride likely triggered the rupture. Universal Orlando has stated the ride is operating normally and has passed all required safety inspections.
The incident highlights that some thrill rides can pose risks to individuals with certain, often unknown, underlying health conditions.
