France has called for NATO to hold a military exercise in Greenland. The announcement came from the French presidential office on Wednesday.
The proposal coincides with the World Economic Forum in Davos. There, U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to repeat his desire to buy the autonomous Danish territory.
Greenland is strategically important for its location and resources. A NATO exercise there would demonstrate the alliance's presence in the Arctic region.
Denmark, which governs Greenland's foreign and defense policy, has not yet commented. The island has previously rejected the idea of being sold.
