Nigerian police have admitted that a mass kidnapping occurred at a church in Kaduna state.
The confirmation came in a statement issued late Tuesday by police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin. The incident involved an abduction of worshippers during a service.
Authorities did not provide the exact number of people taken. The statement confirms earlier reports from local sources about the attack.
Kaduna state is one of several regions in Nigeria heavily affected by bandit groups. These armed gangs frequently carry out kidnappings for ransom.
