A painting by Gustav Klimt has become the most expensive work of modern art ever sold at auction. The portrait fetched $366 million after a 20-minute bidding war.
The six-foot-tall artwork, titled "Dame mit Fächer" (Lady with a Fan), is now the second most expensive painting sold at auction in history. Only Leonardo da Vinci's "Salvator Mundi" has achieved a higher price.
In a stark contrast, another high-profile item failed to attract a winning bid. A functional, 101-kilogram toilet made of solid gold, titled "America," did not sell. The artwork by Maurizio Cattelan was expected to generate significant interest.
