Trump Blames Nobel Committee for Greenland Bid

Former U.S. President Donald Trump linked his push to buy Greenland to not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, according to a text message sent to Norway's prime minister. In the message, Trump stated that after being passed over for the prize, he no longer felt obligated to "think purely of Peace." He then connected this directly to U.S. strategic interests. He argued that the United States needed the large Arctic island for global security reasons. Greenland is a self-governing territory of Denmark. Trump's attempt to purchase Greenland in 2019 was swiftly rejected by the Danish government, which called the idea "absurd."
