Former President Donald Trump has stated that Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, was not aware of the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. Trump claimed the Saudi leader "knew nothing" about the killing.
This statement contradicts the official finding of the US intelligence community. In 2021, US intelligence agencies concluded that the Crown Prince approved an operation to capture or kill Khashoggi.
Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post, was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey. The operation targeted him because of his criticism of the Saudi government.
