Hackers briefly took control of several Iranian state television channels on Sunday. They broadcast a message from Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran's last monarch.
The unauthorized footage showed video clips of Pahlavi. A written message, displayed on screen, directly addressed Iran's security forces. It urged them not to use their weapons against the Iranian people.
The incident represents a significant breach of a tightly controlled state media system. Iranian authorities have not yet commented publicly on the hack.
Reza Pahlavi lives outside of Iran and is a prominent critic of the country's current government. His father, the Shah, was overthrown in the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
