The U.S. Justice Department will not investigate a federal immigration agent who shot and killed a man in Minnesota.
The decision was announced amid ongoing protests over the death of Renee Good. Good was killed by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in a confrontation earlier this year.
At the same time, federal authorities have opened separate investigations into local Democratic leaders. These probes will examine the actions of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
The investigations into the mayor and governor focus on their handling of the protests that followed Good's death. The Justice Department has not provided specific details about the nature of these probes.
The announcement means no federal charges will be brought against the ICE agent involved in the shooting. The local protests demanding justice for Renee Good continue.
