European leaders have issued a sharp warning to former U.S. President Donald Trump. They say his proposed tariffs on Greenland could start a "dangerous downward spiral."
The warning came in a joint statement from eight countries. They declared "full solidarity" with Denmark and Greenland.
Trump has suggested imposing trade taxes on key imports from Greenland. This is seen as pressure to block Chinese investment in the island's rare earth minerals. These minerals are crucial for modern electronics and green technology.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was direct in her response. "Europe will not be blackmailed," she stated.
The strong language signals a major transatlantic dispute if Trump returns to power. European leaders are making their position clear before the U.S. election in November.
