In Pattaya, Thailand, thousands of birds are not just cooing—they are waiting to become millionaires. Today is "basketing day" for Asia's richest pigeon race. The event offers a total prize fund of $2 million.
More than 5,000 racing pigeons are being prepared. Each bird is scanned, logged, and stamped. They are packed tightly into crates, wing to wing.
In 24 hours, the birds will be released hundreds of kilometers away. They must race back to their home lofts. The fastest birds will earn their owners a fortune.
This sport is called pigeon racing. Owners breed and train birds for speed and navigation. The birds use the sun and Earth's magnetic field to find their way home.
