Houthi Leader Threatens Israeli Targets in Somaliland
The leader of Yemen's Houthi movement has issued a new threat against Israel. Abdul-Malik al-Houthi stated his group is prepared to strike Israeli positions in Somaliland. Somaliland is a breakaway region of Somalia. It declared independence in 1991 but is not recognized by any country. Al-Houthi said the Houthis are "serious" about this threat. He did not specify what Israeli presence, if any, exists in Somaliland. The group has repeatedly attacked ships in the Red Sea it claims are linked to Israel. This announcement expands the area of declared Houthi operations. Their attacks have previously focused on the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
