Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado says she gave her Nobel Peace Prize medal to former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Machado made the statement after a private meeting with Trump at the White House on Thursday. She told reporters she "presented" the gold medal to Trump. She said it was to recognize his "unique commitment to our freedom."
It is not clear if Trump accepted the gift.
Machado won the Nobel Peace Prize last year. The award recognized her struggle against Venezuela's government, which she calls a "brutal, authoritarian state" under President Nicolás Maduro.
The gesture appears to be an attempt to regain Trump's political support.
